The language of made up words and the reason this blog exists.

A recent conversation in our kitchen:

Me: (needing to get into a cupboard) Scuzey pleezey.

Him: I see your parents didn’t waste their money on your education.

Me: That’s part of my multilingual education.

Him: What language is that?

Me: Inventese.

Cellfish … and other new words we should all try to use one day soon

Thanks to my son for the link to this page. Some exceptional additions to the Fictionary.

Cellfish is my favourite.

I sadly don’t know who to credit for this brilliant Accidental Word but will update the post if I find out. In the meantime, it came from this Facebook page.

The Dictionary of Obscure Sorrows

A plethora of Fictionary entries on this one website alone.

The Dictionary of Obscure Sorrows is a compendium of invented words written by John Koenig. Each original definition aims to fill a hole in the language—to give a name to emotions we all might experience but don’t yet have a word for.
